Vintage 2009 With the 2009 single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay now in the bottle, a certain amount of pressure has been lifted from our shoulders . The most angst-ridden period at Tantara every year is during the assemblage of the wines for bottling. The culmination of a 16-18 month process comes down to those final decisions, and since we produce as many as 14 vineyard designated Pinot Noir bottlings in any year, there are numerous decisions to make. The 2009 wines are precocious, yet they have enough in reserve to ensure a long life. There is a pronounced bright cherry characteristic that runs through many of the Pinots, and the Chardonnays adhere to the “less is more” philosophy. Particularly noteworthy are the fine aromatics of all the wines. We spent longer this vintage than ever before tasting, blending, re-tasting and blending again and again. Some single vineyard blends took 30 iterations! Time consuming, but satisfying when you get it right. Please see the tasting notes and please enjoy these new wines. We feel that indeed, a sublime experience awaits.   2009 Vintage Tasting Notes 2009 BIEN NACIDO CHARDONNAY – SANTA MARIA VALLEY Medium straw color with hazelnuts, beeswax and white spring flowers on the nose. On the palate, there is a core of tropical fruit wrapped in a mineral band with a dash of lime. The finish shows nice grip. 2009 TALLEY RINCON CHARDONNAY - ARROYO GRANDE VALLEY Light straw, nose a bit reticent and restrained but very pure. Well balanced entry to finish. Refreshing with hints of Meyer lemon meringue. 2009 BIEN NACIDO OLD VINE PINOT NOIR – SANTA MARIA VALLEY Classical Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir. A fine -boned smile inducer of a wine , succulent and savory - spicy with “Mincer’s Pipe Shop” aromas. On the palate there is raspberry, pomegranate and white pepper allied to a persistent finish. 2009 RIO VISTA PINOT NOIR – SANTA RITA HILLS From the eastern end of the Santa Rita Hills AVA, we find a young wine redolent of rose petals. This delicacy is coupled to a more primary fruit character creating a toothsome wine tasting of strawberries and cream with a lively finish.  2009 LINDSAY’S PINOT NOIR – SANTA RITA HILLS As a bookend to the Rio Vista, this selection is from the cooler, windswept western edge of the Santa Rita Hills. Like Solomon Hills in Santa Maria, the higher elevations of this vineyard enjoy an ocean view on a clear day. This is an exotic wine with layers of spice and fruit on both nose and palate. These include cherry pie, orange zest, thyme and a suggestion of musk –a mink stole. The palate is silky like a crushed velvet sports coat at swanky night club.  2009 PISONI  PINOT NOIR – SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS Uncensored notes – “damn that’s good!...neapolitan ice cream…seamless as a figure skater skater across the palate…cherries jubilee…peach cobbler…sexy.”   2009 Chardonnay: 2009 Pinot Noir:
